  • ABOUT US | oldemoonfarm

Hello and Welcome! The Olde Moon Farm Story : Olde Moon Farm was developed through the diligent, creative , and sensitive work of Jay and Willow Jordan Uth, with their daughter Juniper, starting in 2018. In November 2022, they moved to a piece of land they purchased in southern Vermont , Sylvan Moon Farm . We miss them dearly, stay in touch, and cherish their work with the land and fe eding their new regional community! As for the farm name -- Jay and Willow Jordan "named our farm Olde Moon as we set to realizing our intentions for working our own farm business-- the Olde Moon is the crescent just before the New Moon, a time of reflection and gratitude." Olde Moon Farm today: Adam McKinley worked as a part-time crewmember at Olde Moon in 2021 and 2022. He now owns and manages the Olde Moon Farm business, working part-time as a massage therapist at White Oak Wellness in Silverton. Hannah Kullberg moved to the farm with her children, West an d Zaya, in December 2022. Hannah leads the flower aspect of the farm and supports in a myriad of other ways. Hannah works full-time as a consultant in our regional food system. Adam, from Portland, OR, studied plant ecology at Colorado College and massage therapy in Kaua’i. He has worked as an organic farmer, educator, and massage therapist for much of the last 16 years in a number of settings. Adam’s dream is to find balance in raising animals, veggies, flowers, and herbs with providing opportunities for education, personal and community growth, and healing. Hannah fell in love with farming and food systems work while attending Vassar College and interning at the Poughkeepsie Farm Project. Life took her into the natural industry where she continues to work as a food startup connector and project catalyst with the mission to collectively build an equitable, regenerative, resilient, regional food system. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture – a model practiced by thousands of farms and communities around the world, and for many, especially small, diverse farm systems, it forms a critical economic relationship (here’s a link to one short history of CSA ). CSA members (including Market Share members) invest in a “share” of the farm early in the season. This allows the farmer to make needed investments in seeds, soil amendments, and labor when funds are tightest. In return, members receive a regular share of the harvest through the growing season. Together, the farmer and the CSA members acknowledge the risks of depending on nature to feed us – sometimes there are crop shortages due to extreme weather or pests – but we can guarantee there will be enough to nourish and sustain us all. Clearly, the relationship is more than just an economic exchange, or even the opportunity to receive food at its peak nutrition and flavor. Many members value the connection they develop with the land that sustains them and the people that make it possible. In a fast-paced, get-anything-anytime culture, many people also appreciate how it changes the way that they relate to cooking, often developing more confidence and flexibility. As your farmers, we love the direct connection to the communities we feed, and we’re there for you if you don’t know what something is or need inspiration or information. And we frequently learn from and are inspired by you, too. OK, SO WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CSA AND MARKET SHARES? As a CSA member, you receive your "share" of veggies every week through the growing season (this year from June 5th - Oct 30th: 22 weeks in total). As a Market Share member you prepay, but do not receive a fixed amount of produce or farm products each week. You come to shop when you choose and have your total deducted from your prepaid credit. Depending on your lifestyle, some people need the extra flexibility of the Market Share. HOW DOES IT WORK? We send you weekly emails at least 24 hours before Wednesday pickup times, letting CSA members know what is in their boxes and Market Share members what they can expect at the stand. In CSA Shares, we try to provide a good basis for 2-3 people for the week, about $25 worth of vegetables, usually 5-8 components, often including fresh culinary herbs. If that feels like too much, members have split shares with friends or family. This year we will be setting up a farmstand at the Olde Moon Farm site on Wednesdays. CSA Members bring their own bags or boxes and load up the components of their shares. Market Share members come and select what they want and are helped by a farm crew member or help themselves through the honor system. Other Olde Moon or locally-made products will often be available for purchase. Market Share Members can also find us and use their credit at the Silverton Farmers Market. We do not plan to be present at every market but will give you notice either way in our weekly email. We make deliveries to G-Love New American Kitchen and The Minnow on an almost weekly basis. For an additional delivery fee, we may be able to accommodate CSA members in the Portland area. Contact us to see if it's feasible! ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? We would love to hear them! Email us at oldemoonfarm@gmail.com or fill out the web form below. CSA Details Payment Options We accept Cash, Checks, Credit/Debit Cards (on our website below), and SNAP/EBT. Email oldemoonfarm@gmail.com for any payment method other than on the website, as well as any questions. We also participate in Double Up Food Bucks, a program of Farmer's Market Fund in partnership with the Pacific Northwest CSA Coalition , which provides matching dollars for SNAP, making the CSA more affordable. • LAND | oldemoonfarm

to be here is to be present, responsible and grateful our relationship to land farming & stewardship Land Acknowledgement Our little farm settles into the side of a saddle, in a clearing within dense timber close to 900 ft above the nearby town of Silverton Oregon. Tended by the Molalla people for millennia, the occupation of this area in the 1800s represented the negating of humanity of these people, as well as the denial of generation upon generation of traditional ecological knowledge that shaped their landscapes, language, and culture through intimate coevolution and stewardship. Surviving the horrors of colonization, attempted genocide, and continued oppression, the Molalla people are now represented by the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz. While these brief statements are not intended to make up for the unspeakable mistakes of the past and present, we hope that community attention toward history in understanding current inequities is one aspect of nurturing more positive, life-giving, co-stewardship relationships in our collective future.

  • CSA FAQ | oldemoonfarm

CSA Frequently Asked Questions WHAT DOES “CSA” STAND FOR? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. WHAT IS A CSA? A CSA is an economic model created to support local farms and food systems. A group of members commit to purchasing "shares" of farm products in advance. By committing funds in advance a partnership between members and their farmers is created in which members acknowledge and agree to share the risks inherent with farming such as poor harvests due to working with the natural world (i.e. unpredictable weather conditions, natural disasters, pests, and so on). Members, in return, receive a bounty of fresh, local and seasonal share of farm products as well as the inherent satisfaction of supporting local agriculture and ensuring a more robust and adaptable local food system. Members can also expect to gain a more intimate view of what farming entails through newsletter correspondence as well as opportunities to visit and celebrate alongside the farm. Additionally, by buying locally with our farm, members support the local economy and support local land stewardship and farming while building the community. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CSA MEMBER? As a CSA member you pay in advance for your share and commit to picking up your share on a weekly basis, and share the risks and rewards that we, farmers, face each growing season.. In return you get the very best our farm has to offer every week of the CSA season. WHAT IS IN A SHARE? Each week we will select a variety of vegetables that will fill a share out to be bountiful and delicious. Flower shares will be either mixed bouquets or generous straight bunches (all one variety) to fill you with joy! WHAT SIZE IS THE SHARE? HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL THE SHARE FEED FOR A WEEK? As you might imagine the answer to this question depends on you and you r family's personal eating practices. The share generally feeds 2-3 people. If you anticipate needing more veggies please sign up for 2 shares. If you anticipate needing less veggies -- find someone to split your share with! Because we are a small business we cannot accommodate for variation in the packing of shares at this time. We do our very best to listen to our community and adjust our practices to their needs. WHEN DOES THE CSA BEGIN? WHAT IS THE DURATION? CAN I CONTINUE MY SHARE AFTER MY SEASONAL SHARE ENDS? Because every one has different seasonal food needs, we offer the opportunity for our members to sign up for the CSA in a few ways. You can sign up for the whole season, sign up for specific seasons in advance, or sign up as the year goes on. If you can, we highly encourage you to sign up in advance to ensure your membership and make our lives easier. As Seasons change, we will open CSA shares a few weeks prior to the Season Share end date. We will do our best to accommodate all interested, but we do have limitations to how many members we we can take on to ensure quality and our sanity. I’M SIGNED UP FOR THE CSA AND HAVEN’T RECEIVED ANY EMAILS. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Our email and updates are delivered via MailChimp. First, check your SPAM folder or if using Gmail, your Promotions tab (it gobbles a lot of updates up). Add our email (oldemoonfarm@gmail.com ) to your contacts. If you don’t find an email in those places, please contact us with an email and we will do our best to figure it out. CSA FAQ Veggie Share VEGGIES Get ready to love on all your veggies! Organic, nutrient rich and grown with exquisite care - love what you eat. Flower Share FLOWERS Our unique flowers are grown with organic practices for the health and beauty of all. Flowers celebrate the year with love for wellness and joy. Whole Moon Share VEGGIES + FLOWERS Fill both your belly and soul! Following the season with both vegetables and flowers is a sure way to sink in deeply with the world around you.

  • EQUITY NOW | oldemoonfarm

our responsibility to you and us equity takes everyday listen, learn and take action EQUITY ACTION It can be easy to feel isolation, even loneliness, working on a little bubble of land, head down tending to all the many layers and details of keeping a diverse living system humming and healthy. However, the experience can also be one that connects us deeply with our local and global human family, as well as the systems of oppression that maintain inequality, great pain, ecological degradation, and the loss of vital traditional ecological knowledge, language and culture. Beyond understanding and connection, we know that action is necessary to create change. As a white cis male, I acknowledge that I have a lifetime of learning and active personal work around race, privilege, gender, inclusion, history, etc. I strive to stay engaged and committed to personal and community awareness building, as well as supporting organizations or individuals fighting for racial or gender equality.
