CSA Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DOES “CSA” STAND FOR?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.

WHAT IS A CSA?

A CSA is an economic model created to support local farms and food systems. A group of members commit to purchasing "shares" of farm products in advance. By committing funds in advance a partnership between members and their farmers is created in which members acknowledge and agree to share the risks inherent with farming such as poor harvests due to working with the natural world (i.e. unpredictable weather conditions, natural disasters, pests, and so on). Members, in return, receive a bounty of fresh, local and seasonal share of farm products as well as the inherent satisfaction of supporting local agriculture and ensuring a more robust and adaptable local food system. Members can also expect to gain a more intimate view of what farming entails through newsletter correspondence as well as opportunities to visit and celebrate alongside the farm. Additionally, by buying locally with our farm, members support the local economy and support local land stewardship and farming while building the community.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CSA MEMBER?

As a CSA member you pay in advance for your share and commit to picking up your share on a weekly basis, and share the risks and rewards that we, farmers, face each growing season.. In return you get the very best our farm has to offer every week of the CSA season.

WHAT IS IN A SHARE?

Each week we will select a variety of vegetables that will fill a share out to be bountiful and delicious. Flower shares will be either mixed bouquets or generous straight bunches (all one variety) to fill you with joy!

WHAT SIZE IS THE SHARE? HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL THE SHARE FEED FOR A WEEK?

As you might imagine the answer to this question depends on you and your family's personal eating practices. The share generally feeds 2-3 people. If you anticipate needing more veggies please sign up for 2 shares. If you anticipate needing less veggies -- find someone to split your share with! Because we are a small business we cannot accommodate for variation in the packing of shares at this time. We do our very best to listen to our community and adjust our practices to their needs.

WHEN DOES THE CSA BEGIN? WHAT IS THE DURATION? CAN I CONTINUE MY SHARE AFTER MY SEASONAL SHARE ENDS?

Because every one has different seasonal food needs, we offer the opportunity for our members to sign up for the CSA in a few ways. You can sign up for the whole season, sign up for specific seasons in advance, or sign up as the year goes on. If you can, we highly encourage you to sign up in advance to ensure your membership and make our lives easier. As Seasons change, we will open CSA shares a few weeks prior to the Season Share end date. We will do our best to accommodate all interested, but we do have limitations to how many members we we can take on to ensure quality and our sanity.

I’M SIGNED UP FOR THE CSA AND HAVEN’T RECEIVED ANY EMAILS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Our email and updates are delivered via MailChimp. First, check your SPAM folder or if using Gmail, your Promotions tab (it gobbles a lot of updates up). Add our email (oldemoonfarm@gmail.com) to your contacts.  If you don’t find an email in those places, please contact us with an email and we will do our best to figure it out.
